Where was i... moved this weekend, bought a new bike. A Fisher Cake 3 Deluxe. Suh-weet. New digs are now officially ON THE TRAIL, just as close to work, 4 miles closer to skiing...
So the weekend was a race (boys and girls now top 8 in state, with a bullet), a frisbee carwash, and moving.
Monday a slow (8 minute pace) 5 mile run, Tuesday, 8 x 400's at 82, 87, 84, 82, 80, 80, 79, 74. The slow ones were easy (ish), The last (fastest) hurt. The gap is because I ran the first w/ JV guys, then dropped back to pace the varsity girls. According to theory, I should be able to do them all somewhat faster next week. Funny, it's really, REALLY hard to turn it over right now... the low 80's felt fine, the 75 felt like I was going to die. All intervals even-2 seconds faster on the back 200 m. Re lack of speed, hold the jokes peanut gallery.
Then I biked home, changed bikes, and went for a 10 mile ride on the new bike... awesome.
Little heavier than my rigid bike, but it's so buttery smooth that I think that long rides will be more pleasant. 5" of travel front and back is plush.
Ultimate corner.
Recruiting. Get 2 really popular athletic kids to defect from their sport. Watch gravity work. 16 kids last sunday, 18 kids this sunday. Also, a new team at another school in town.
Good luck at nationals.
New roomate (homeowner) is a world cup snowboarder who does 2x day, hard workouts, eats every meal from a menu for caloric balance, 6 meals per day, etc.
Ultimate players have a long way to go...

waddup. Found a 'safe' sized box yet?
2 minutes between 400's (originally 2:30, but that was deemed too much). Usually finished the 400 and jogged 200 to keep the lactic acid from pooling, i usually stopped and walked up to the line for the last 20-25 seconds so i could really rest up.
today an 'adventure' run through bend. my team (w/ kids) won, and no kids were hurt in the process.
i THINK i'm good to go for the 6or7 x 8's on friday (3 minutes rest, i think). but we'll see.
roomie works at home depot doing something or another...
i think the diet stuff gets more intense year by year nation wide... although i think bode miller lives in a camper top in austria and eats bratwurst and beer...

but we modify so...
I teach a HS team in St. Louis. Any tips on shanghai-ing prepackaged athletes from other sports like basketball and soccer? I got a couple last year, but mostly track and cross country kids. A bunch of football players came out, which was strange. We had the most musclebound team in the league, but it didn't help us much on the field.
I want those basketball players, though . . .
well, do you teach? for me, the first year was a bunch of mainly nordic skiers who i had coached, but also taught.
year two, added some XC Runners who i coached. This summer, gained more xc runners, and this term, i'm getting a lot of the kids i teach. The freshmen are coming out in droves... and some upper classmen...
so
1) recruit recruit recruit
2) get your players to recruit recruit recruit
3) highlight the life long aspect (you can play at almost any college)
4) coach other sports?
5)get a few kids in the league, or local pickup, so they see that lots of people play, and that not everyone is a 'jock' or 'geek' or whatever...
6) treat kids with dignity, curtesy and respect so that you get kids who prefer that environment. at the very least you'll be considered cool, and if nothing else, you'll enjoy the process more.
i don't know if that's helpful...
luke
downhill/slalom or whatever it is. slash cyclocross racer or something. seems to excercise more than me. MANY people are more athletic than me, but not a lot just flat out stink up the clothes more than me... most people more athletic than me train a lot less... (they don't NEED to)
yes, i hear bode has a big ol' beer cooler in his camper top...
probably an xbox, too.
